It’s sad when “my own people” shame me into voting for the Democrats – not because the policies are sound, but because the Republicans is allegedly racist, and that third parties are a wasted vote.
I’m not one for blind loyalty for one party. Never have been, never will be. Down-ballot voting without vetting the candidate is basically rubber-stamping people into positions solely because they represent a letter of the political alphabet.
This season’s election is over, but some good takeaways can be learned from this cycle:
1: never take voters for granted.
2: early polls don’t mean much (especially those from the mainstream media).
3: VOTING FOR THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS IS STILL EVIL.
4: No election cycle has ever been, “the most important election of our lives.”
5: The electoral college IS just as important as the popular vote.
6: The United States is not a democracy – it’s a constitutional republic. It’s the difference between a mob rule and a process where the rights of the individual are not trampled on.
My parting advice to you is this: if you’re feeling as if you don’t have a place in either the Red or Blue parties, seek out alternative parties – parties like the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, the Forward Party, and several others. I’m positive that you’ll find one that aligns more with your beliefs than the two major ones.
Find one, join one, and be active in it.
